Get Caught Up With Bulk Scanning

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I’ve talked to several people this week that are ready to sign up for Shoeboxed, but have one last question: If I have a backlog of receipts, how do I get started?

Sure, Shoeboxed is great for keeping up month-to-month with your receipts, but if you have a backlog, some find that their volume is just overwhelming. They wouldn’t be able to catch up if they just had one envelope per month. If this sounds like you, you’re not alone, and Shoeboxed can certainly help.

Indeed most people that need to get their receipts organized have a big backlog - a big box or two sitting in their home or office that has been piling high with receipts for years. After all, if you’ve never had Shoeboxed, you know how hard it is to get all those receipts organized, because no one wants to scan that many receipts themselves.

That’s why we offer bulk scanning.

On top of your Receipt Mail-In subscription, you can send in a large volume of receipts to us and we will scan them at special rates so you can get caught up. You just send your receipts to us in whatever container makes sense (box, big envelope, etc.). We scan them and upload them to your online account as normal, and then mail them back to you.

If you are interested in doing some bulk scanning, email us at mail-in@team.shoeboxed.com or call us at (888) 369-4269.

Taping Receipts to Paper

Monday, August 11th, 2008

I’ve heard this myth out there. So scary, this myth. I thought I might warn you, prepare you, just in case. Ready? I couldn’t believe it either: Many people are forced to tape receipts to paper.

Whether for bookkeeping, archiving, or expense reports, everyday many do-gooding Americans are told that scotch-taping their receipts to yet another piece of paper is the best way to get their expenses organized.

Fortunately, for each and every one of you that has been forced into such a situation, who has sat there with scotch tape in one hand and papers in the other wondering what on earth, who has wasted so much tape and so much paper.

To you we say, “Welcome.” Shoeboxed is here. Step away from the tape and put down the paper.

With Shoeboxed, you can send you receipts as loose pieces of paper (actually that’s how we want them) in an envelope. No tape or paper backing needed. Your receipts will be scanned and entered in to your online account, so you can sort them in a way that makes sense. There’s no need to have some elaborate filing system anymore. We’ll make your receipts sortable for you, without the tape.

More to Enjoy on the Shoeboxed Blog

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

The blog has been an ongoing project over the last year, with (almost) daily updates about features, the team, and topics related to receipts, bookkeeping, online accounting, and tracking spending.

There is a lot to write about here, and a lot of great posts. In order to make sure that some of the most important information is not lost in all the other content, I’ve created some permanent pages that you can access on the right.

So far there are only four, but I will be adding to these over time. If you have any suggestions or thoughts about what should be on these pages, let me know. I’d love to hear your feedback.

Right now, we have a list of Twitterers that we think are interesting, a page about Shoeboxed, a list of authorities on personal finance, bookkeeping and receipts, and a list of common myths about Shoeboxed.

Enjoy!

You Have to Pay Taxes; You Don’t Have to Do Administrative Work

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

As we all know, taxes are not once-a-year activity. In order to keep tabs on all your tax documents, including receipts and bank statements, you have keep them organized on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

This doesn’t sound very fun, right? I’m sure some of you are wondering how this would even be possible. Won’t you have to get an administrative assistant to handle all this paper work?

The answer is no!

With Shoeboxed, you can head to HR Block or JacksonHewitt next March with the confidence that you have all your receipts organized. You will also be relieved that you will be able to breathe easy if you are ever audited by the IRS.

Well, that’s where Shoeboxed comes in. You’ll be able to outsource all that administrative work of organizing your receipts to Shoeboxed. We’ll scan your receipts and upload them to a secure account online. You will have them for all your tax needs. They are exportable to tax software, Quicken and Excel. You can also print them to have them in paper form.

HR Block and JacksonHewitt will probably thank you for saving them from all that administrative work that they now don’t have to do.
