Receipt Management 2.0 Has Arrived

When it comes to managing your receipts we want to make the process painless, enjoyable and — dare we say — magical. You’ve given us tons of helpful feedback over the years (thank you!), and we’re thrilled to show you what we’ve been working on.

    I’m in the process of getting my year-end receipts organized and just tried the new system briefly.

    My thoughts:

    – Why did you remove shipping? This is essential to businesses who need to determine cost of goods sold
    – Receipt view is still terrible: it needs a “grab” function so users don’t have to use vertical and horizontal scrollbars. This really needs to be improved in both versions.
    – Tags in 2.0 isn’t helpful, we should still have tick boxes. Typing in the custom tags isn’t faster and it impacts consistency.
    – Dates on the receipts seem to have been rolled back by one day in 2.0? This is really bad. All my receipts have moved behind by one day???
    – Can’t filter by viewed and unviewed

    There’s no value for me to move to this new version. Please don’t force 2.0 on existing users.

    The search has improved, but Looks like that’s the only improvement. here are a couple of issues:
    1)Takes too long to add categories now – the user interface is not friendly. The check boxes were better and faster.
    2) After making changes, ie: the Payment Type field, one has to hit SAVE or the changes wont save. This adds an extra step and likely a lot of people will forget to hit save each time
    3) Why is so difficult to export a single receipt. What happened to the EXPORT (as PDF) function
    4) Why is it so difficult to share a single receipt? Where is the share-via email / link functionality?
    5) After a receipt is in preview mode, the X doesn’t always close the preview screen, one has to click on the next receipt in order to close the pop-up
    6) there should be an ability to have commonly searched filters pre-built. For example: Last 30 days. Last 90 Days. Last year, Quarter 1, 2, 3 etc..
    I was waiting for this update for some time, but I will continue using the old interface. Please do not force all to use this until a little more work has been put into it.

    I really hope that Shoeboxed pulls together all of the issues sited above before 2.0 is rolled out beyond a beta release. I think that a forced migration to 2.0 without the above mentioned issues as well as many others would result in the loss of some of your customers. The Shoeboxed concept is a good start, however, it seems to me that the whole interface and experience is focused on people with very few receipts in general and few categories. I have used the service for a few years, having over 5000 receipts, over a half million dollars, and I really would dread an IRS Audit given the chore this product would require to mine the relevant receipts back out. I was told on several occasions that Shoeboxed “NEVER” intends to be able to split categories within a receipt! I feel like getting together a few CPAs, several coders, a warehouse and about 500 industrial scanners,and starting a business to “eat Shoeboxed lunchbox”. I don’t have time to list all the problems with the current or beta interfaces, or the systems internally, but a few include unfathomable mistakes such as sending your processed receipts to other customers, no plans to do simple things like “splits”, and heck, Shoeboxed can’t even get straight including their own invoices into the pile of receipts. Silly. Growing pains perhaps, but businesses live and die by the needs of customers, and from what I see, there is a need for a MAJOR overhaul.
