Introducing Gmail Receipt Sync

Introducing Gmail Receipt Sync

The average person misses $460 in claimed deductions every year. At Shoeboxed, our mission is to make sure you’re not one of them. With an increasing number of receipts coming through email, what better way to achieve this than with the new Gmail Receipt Sync by Shoeboxed?

Introducing our first ever leave-it-and-forget-it receipt submission method. We spot incoming receipts and submit them to Shoeboxed on your behalf. They undergo the processing you know and love – where vendor, total amount, date and payment type are extracted and available in your searchable online account.

What’s so awesome about it?

  • One-time, one-minute setup
  • Link multiple Gmail accounts, no limits
  • Link to multiple Shoeboxed accounts
  • Never miss or spend time searching your inbox for receipts ever again

We couldn’t be happier to announce the release of Gmail Receipt Sync and we would love to hear feedback from our users! Please take one minute to link your Gmail account(s) to your Shoeboxed account and we’ll start by pulling in any receipts in your inbox from the past 24 hours.

Once you have linked your accounts, we will regularly check your inbox to ensure that no receipt ever slips through and that they’re safely secure and categorized in your Shoeboxed account.

What could be better?

One time, one minute setup. Let’s go.

This is an awesome new feature, but is there a way to flag items as not being for shoeboxed, to help train the system? I have several contacts that email me things that might look like receipts, but these people will never be sending me receipts. I’d really like to flag email from these contacts to be ignored by shoeboxed.

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

Right now there is no way to flag items to not be sent to Shoeboxed. We hope that you still find the feature useful!

I think I’m looking forward to using this feature! Right now, I’ve used the email-to-shoeboxed email to forward receipts, and I’m having a really big challenge with Shoeboxed dating the emailed receipt with the email date rather than the date of the receipt. Any way to prevent this from happening?

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

I suggest forwarding the emails on the same day as the receipt is received to prevent the problem, even though we should always extract the date on receipt. I’ll also pass this along to our Director of Operations to make sure our data entry operators get a reminder. Sorry for the trouble! :)

Thanks for the reply, Emily. I appreciate it. I have hundreds, unfortunately, that have the incorrect date and sometimes the incorrect amount, and it’s pretty time consuming to go through each one-by-one.

In the future, I will try to email them on the same day.

  • David

This sounds nice, but I’m concerned about giving you access to all of my e-mail. Can you address what you do to protect privacy?

  • savage

I need this feature as well. I am getting notifications that non-receipt emails are being shoeboxed. I get more non-receipt emails automatically added to my shoebox account than regular receipts. So if I can’t train it soon, it will be more time consuming to clean it up than if I didn’t use the system at all. So PLEASE add this feature in soon.

BTW, there is nothing remotely receipt-like about the emails that shoebox is grabbing as a receipt. The only thing similar is the email address they come from.

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

Absolutely! The link between Shoeboxed and Gmail is a secure connection using OAuth, a protocol that lets you grant services like Shoeboxed access to your Gmail without sharing your Gmail password with us. It also means that you can turn it off easily from here:

Thanks for your feedback! We’re happy to add credits back onto your account for the emails that were incorrectly identified as receipts. Send an email to help@team.shoeboxed.com with the number of emails that were added and we’ll take care of it for you.

  • Corrie Wilson

How do I turn this off? It’s importing stuff that is not even close to receipts! I love the idea, but until I can change what it sends, I’ll just email the stuff in. Help!

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

Sorry for the trouble! You can turn it off on this page:
    https://gmailreceiptsync.shoeboxed.com/

Also, if you’d like us to add those credits back onto your account, send us an email at help@team.shoeboxed.com with the number of incorrectly identified emails it imported.

  • http://OutlierMarketing.net/ Chris McCann

Does this backlog receipts from before the gmail account was synced?

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

No– Gmail Receipt Sync is not retroactive and will only add receipts that come into your inbox after the integration is set up.

OK how do you turn this off, its flaky and causing more work than time its “saving”?

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

Sorry for the trouble! You can turn it off on this page:

If you’d like us to add those credits back onto your account usage, send us an email at help@team.shoeboxed.com with the number of incorrectly identified emails it imported.

Thank you, no problem, we have just been through everything and sorted it, but the offer is appreciated.

  • Rhoelyn

I agree with other commenters. It’s a good idea, but without the ability to train it out of picking up spam, coupons, and sale flyers, it’s just wasting my submissions. I’m turning it off until you have a chance to add in more controls and better recognition of true receipts.

  • Emily at Shoeboxed

Thanks for your feedback! We’ll make sure to you updated on any improvements to Gmail Receipt Sync.
