Shoeboxed is growing at a fast pace, and not just in its user base!

This month Shoeboxed added two snazzy new team members to our ranks here at SBX HQ in Durham, NC. And we just wanted to take a minute to introduce them to you!

Meet Emily Farrar (@emilycfarrar), Shoeboxed’s awesome new Lead Customer Advocate, and Megan Carriker (@megancarriker), Shoeboxed’s rockstar Office Manager!

So, Emily. Tell us about yourself!
I’m originally from Greensboro, NC. I studied Public Relations in the Journalism School at UNC, and my professional background is in social media, search marketing and public relations. I love good music, Harry Potter and Foursquare. I’m also a vegetarian, grammar perfectionist, iPhone addict and Tar Heel fan. When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, tweeting, going out and watching reality TV.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
Fun, motivated, outgoing.

What’s your favorite part of working for Shoeboxed now?
I love making customers happy. Also, the startup atmosphere here is pretty awesome.

Give us one tip for getting organized!
Lists. To do lists, shopping lists, priority lists, pros/cons lists, all kinds of lists. If you write it down or, like me, make a Google doc about it, you’re much more likely to stay organized.

Serious question now: Pepsi or Coke?
I don’t drink soft drinks. Sweet tea, please.

What’s the best purchase you’ve ever made?
A tour of Egypt to celebrate graduating from college.

Egypt, eh? What did you think?
Egypt was amazing. I spent two weeks exploring ancient sites and the modern metropolis of Cairo (and even went on a 6-day Nile Cruise!). I can’t wait for my next adventure!

How do you feel about these new things called start-ups?
Stoked! Talented and passionate people, team mentality, ping pong in the office, wearing jeans to work… what else could you want?

Gaga or Perry (answer very carefully…)?
Katy. Her songs are just more fun to sing along to!

Does paper clutter scare you as much as it scares us?
I’m hoping that working at Shoeboxed will help cure my early stage hoarding problem.

What do you think is the best thing about NC?
The people — especially anyone who graduated from Carolina. Also, the seasons, the history, the beach, the mountains…

What’s the best website on the internet? It’s a tie: ThoughtCatalog and StumbleUpon.

So Hotlanta really wasn’t that hot after all? Not as hot as Durham anyway?
The startup scene in Durham is definitely hotter, and I couldn’t be happier to be back in my home state.

Megan! Your turn! Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in the small town of Mount Airy, NC. Also known as Mayberry. I went to UNC-Chapel Hill and I graduated with a double major in Advertising and Asian Studies. After my three years at UNC, Ignite Social Media welcomed me with open arms as the Executive Assistant for Jim Tobin. But my passion for start-ups led me to my current position at Shoeboxed.

I have no free time (I love to stay busy) but I do have a very serious love for browsing the web and sharing the silly things I find. Cat videos are awesome. I’m also a geek. My main interests include anything to do with Asia, and anything to do with the video game industry, and marketing/social media.

Mayberry, eh? Are you aware that Rascal Flatts wrote a song about your hometown? How do you feel about country music?
Not a fan :) I grew up playing classical violin and everyone thought I played the fiddle. I’m pretty anti-country-music. Give me some Prokofiev or Mozart over that stuff any day…(yes, I sound like a snob, I’m cool with that!)

How would you describe yourself in three words?
Weird, curious, observant. Also awesome. And bad at counting.

What’s your favorite part of working for Shoeboxed now?
It’s a start-up and I get to wear so many hats here! I get to help out all over the place and there’s never a dull day. We’re living in exciting times and Shoeboxed is an equally exciting place to be!

Give us one tip for getting organized!
Stay organized as you go. If you let things build up over time and keep putting off organizing and sorting things, then it becomes a lot easier to keep procrastinating. Just keeping tabs on things as you go and taking care of a little bit every day at a time is a lot better than having to dedicate a whole day to a project.

Serious question now: Pepsi or Coke?
Pepsi. Although I’d much rather have Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb…

What’s the best purchase you’ve ever made?
The deposit on my current apartment. It’s the first time I’ve ever lived by myself and I absolutely love my apartment. Finally feeling like I have a place of my own…it’s the best purchase I’ve made so far in my life.

How do you feel about these new things called start-ups?
Love ‘em. Most people think you have to go to Silicon Valley to get a taste of the best start-ups in the U.S. But most people don’t realize how many great things are going on right here in North Carolina, let alone in the Triangle. We’ve got so many fantastic start-ups and so many great events going on right here. It’s absolutely incredible.

Does paper clutter scare you as much as it scares us?
I have no fear of paper clutter! You do not scare me, paper clutter! I will end you!

Someone told us there’s a monster in your office? What’s that about?
There is a “monster” in our office (and no, I’m not talking about the yellow costume I’m wearing in that picture), but that’s all I can really say about him now. Someone told me that we might be doing a promotional video about him soon, though. So I’d stay tuned!

Winter or summer?
Winter! My birthday is in January, therefore it must be the best month! I do love winter, though. I melt in the summer. It’s true. But fall and winter are absolutely my favorite seasons.

What do you think is the best thing about NC?
For me, it’s home. What’s not to love?

Thanks for your time, guys! And welcome aboard! :)

Stay Organized,

The Ever-growing Shoeboxed Team
