Mobile is the new Web 2.0, is the new World Wide Web… or so we hear. In any case, we are happy to welcome the newest addition to our developer team, Sandra Miller. Sandra will be focusing on making our mobile apps the best they can be, for iOS, Android and maybe even Windows, Blackberry and other outliers.

Sandra Miller, Shoeboxed Mobile DeveloperSandra originally hails from Indiana, but she has been a Triangle resident for many years, so she didn’t have to come far to join the Shoe Crew. As part of her Shoeboxed welcome package, we made her answer a quick questionnaire about herself, which we have edited for appropriateness and are happy to share with you below:

So, Sandra, tell us about yourself!
First and foremost, I’m the mother of two amazing teenage girls. Also, I’m a software engineer that has happily migrated from “systems” to “mobile” development over the course of my career. Finally, I’m an outdoor lover who needs to “get out” more.

What do you do when you “get out?”
Hiking and backpacking mostly. I look forward to getting back to the Canyonlands in Utah.

I’m sure that trip will provide plenty of Instagram opportunities… How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Persistent, sincere and open-minded.

What’s your favorite part of working at Shoeboxed?
Solving technical problems using the best tools for the job.

Give us one tip for getting organized!
Empty the container and clean it. You’ll be less tempted to just throw all that stuff back into it. (Unless of course, it’s a “Magic Envelope” full of receipts that you can mail in to Shoeboxed!)

I hear those Magic Envelopes just make paper vanish! But now, to a serious question: Pepsi or Coke?
Diet Coke.

I see you are not very good with sticking to multiple choice, so let’s move to an open-ended question. What’s the best purchase you’ve ever made?
My dog Tegwen.

How did you come up with the name Tegwen? What kind of dog is (s)he? Does (s)he bite?
Bite? Ha! She is a flat-coated retriever which are often called the “Peter Pan” of dogs due to their endless youthful enthusiasm. Just feeding her dinner can make me laugh. And she’s seven.

We got her from a Welsh breeder while living in the UK for a few years. To name her, we googled “welsh baby name girl” and it was one of the few names we could pronounce.

Cool! How do you feel about these things called start-ups?
Glad they are not call “dot-coms” anymore. It’s a privilege to work in such an energizing environment.

What do you think is the best thing about NC?
People here are happy. Northerners call it “friendly,” but that’s just a symptom.

Does paper clutter scare you as much as it scares us?
Not anymore.

We hear there’s a monster in your office. What’s up with that?
Don’t believe everything you hear.

Final question: What’s the craziest thing you have done that your daughters know about?
Inadvertently took them to a nude beach in Spain, and stayed. The guide book failed to mention this aspect of the secluded destination and we had made quite an effort to get there.

Fantastic! This may qualify as the best answer ever to a Shoeboxed welcome interview. Congratulations, and welcome to the team! We’re excited to see what you do with our mobile apps.
