Noura Sonnenberg: I’m a  former Management Consultant with Deloitte & Touche in London. I absolutely love travelling and spent nearly 12 years living overseas. In fact, I have lived and worked in over 15 countries across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East! I now live in Peoria, Illinois – very different from London (lots of cornfields!), but it is a great small city filled to the brim with busy, dual income families…..a perfect launch pad for BusyGenie.

SBX: So what exactly is BusyGenie? Love the name!

Our aim is to be the resource busy families and individuals can count on to help accomplish day-to-day tasks, as well as projects. Personal assistant, concierge, lifestyle management, events, chores and more! Our services are aimed at busy families and individuals. Some of our most popular services include: on-call emergency and back-up childcare and grocery shopping – BusyGenie shops for the food, delivers it to the door and will even put it all away for our clients! Husbands and boyfriends love our “Romance Concierge” service. BusyGenie designs unique events for couples – anything from first dates to birthdays to engagements to date nights for busy parents. We will assist with the creative ideas, make the reservations, and coordinate all the details. All our clients have to do is show up and enjoy the romance!

SBX: That sounds awesome! Have you always wanted to own your own business? We’d love to hear about how BusyGenie came to be!

NS: Yes!! I have always been business-minded, and as a child I had the entrepreneurial spirit. I got my start selling lemonade and snow cones on the street corners, and in the summers I would go down to the beach to collect left-behind glass soda pop bottles to get the 5¢ refunds!

Now as an adult, I have an innate ability to visualize and conceptualize business strategies and new business ideas that I know would work well. Sometimes I have too many ideas and it can be overwhelming, but ultimately I think my ability to clearly visualize new business concepts and ideas is what contributed to my successful career as a management consultant.

BusyGenie was born out of a natural desire and talent to organize anything and anyone! Also, as a busy wife and mom, there are a million and one tasks that are always on my “to-do” list that I would love to be able to outsource to someone else to take care of for me. Take grocery shopping for example – what a time-consuming task! Or what about when my child is ill and can’t go to school or his regular daycare? I still need to go to work. Where do I find a babysitter on such short notice? When I started BusyGenie, it was because I myself couldn’t find the services I most wanted and needed in Peoria and knew that I could not be the only mom feeling this way.

SBX: Sounds like BusyGenie is great at keeping others organized – now we’d like to hear about how you do that for yourself! We’ve heard you have a pretty sweet system for staying organized and that Shoeboxed is a link in that chain. Can you tell us about it?

NS: Yes! Love, love, love my Doxie –> Shoeboxed –> Evernote system. I call myself a scan ninja these days because I will scan anything that stands still long enough! All of my business receipts, along with the receipts and bills of my clients, are wirelessly scanned, auto-uploaded to Shoeboxed and from Shoeboxed, auto-archived to Evernote. SBX: We’d love to hear more about that. How has Shoeboxed simplified taking care of paperwork for your clients?
